This oil painting is the work of Charles Gordon Harris (1891–1963), a prominent Rhode Island artist.
The piece, which likely depicts the sand dunes of Cape Cod or Bermuda, displays the naturalist style and atmospheric lighting characteristic of his most recognized landscapes. Coastal sand dunes, are a recurring theme in his work.
It’s not dated, but it’s likely from the 1930’s time frame.
It hangs horizontally and measures 30” x 25”.
Please note- due to its age, and the fact that it was hanging on a wall for many years there is wear to it. There is some cracking of the paint, especially on the bottom, as shown in pics.
There is also some discolorations, especially on the sides of the canvas. There is also do minor staining/spots, which you can see close up near the signature.
I did not try to clean it as I didn’t wanna risk damaging it.
This came out of an old farmhouse in Litchfield NH, and is ready for a new home :)
