statement-scale antique architectural door header (overdoor pediment) dating from the late 19th century. Removed from a historic estate entryway, this monumental piece exemplifies the luxury of the Victorian and Beaux-Arts eras.
(Note for photos: The header is pictured upside down to protect the upper crown shelf; the row of ornate corbels belongs at the very top).
This piece features an incredibly wide, deep protruding crown shelf supported by a rhythmic row of highly detailed, hand-finished corbel brackets. The wide center frieze is stunningly decorated with classical high-relief swags, ribbons, and floral garlands highlighted in their gorgeous, original aged gold leaf/gilt finish.
This is an incredibly versatile piece for high-end interior design. While it originally sat atop grand parlor double doors or a massive pier mirror, it is frequently used today as a dramatic architectural wall feature, a luxurious statement headboard, or the crowning piece for a custom fireplace surround.
